Potential ASEAN-EAEU integration on the agenda: Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

ASEAN and Russian Government Ministers and officials will be attending the Russia-ASEAN forum at the Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok. There will be numerous ASEAN and Russian industrialists from the energy, agricultural, logistics, banking, investment, and state funding sectors in addition to the integration department of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Dezan Shira & Associates Chairman, Chris Devonshire-Ellis will also be attending the session.

The Forum’s preamble is as follows:

The Eastern Economic Forum has become a key platform for discussing pressing issues involving cooperation between Russia’s Far Eastern regions and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in an effort to improve the welfare of the population in the member countries.

Along with developing cooperation in traditional areas, the parties pay special attention to such promising areas as joint environmental and climate programs based on ESG principles, improving energy efficiency based on sustainable development goals, creating an economic system based on the principles of a circular economy, and developing funding mechanisms that are appropriate for each situation.

In October 2021, at the Russia–ASEAN summit that marked the 30th anniversary of their relations, 2022 was declared the Year of Russia–ASEAN Scientific and Technical Cooperation based on the Russian side’s initiative. Today, it is crucial to develop coordinated steps to move towards the goals that have been set and to identify new growth points and balanced solutions for successful collaboration between the business circles of Russia and ASEAN. We will discuss:

What tools can be used to create new long-term sustainable forms of cooperation?

What prospects exist for further developing scientific, technical, innovative, and industrial cooperation?

How can we build an effective mechanism to jointly exchange practices and expertise, taking into account sustainable development goals?

Chris Devonshire-Ellis will be available for questions following the event. Please email him for opinion and analysis at
